Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
