“Before mechanised cutting, constructing a modest trading ship required approximately 10 lumberjacks working for 90 days,” writes Jaime Dávila. “Using wind-powered lumber mills, an identical quantity of processed timber might be manufactured in less than seven days.”

“Every component seemed modest on its own. The Dutchman’s brilliance was to integrate these parts so the machine acted within a precisely synchronized order, cutting with each descending stroke while advancing with each return stroke. It was a remarkably clever application of basic parts.”
